"Scriven—Hottes." The Brisbane Courier (Qld.: 1864 - 1933) 6 July 1933[1]
Scriven-Hottes
The Corpus Christi Church, Nundah, had been tastefully decorated by the Sisters of Saint Joseph on May 13, when the Rev. Dr. English solemnised the marriage of Mr. Matthew Scriven (eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Scriven, Kitchener Road, Kedron) and Miss Kathleen Hottes (eldest daughter of Mrs. Hottes, Westacott Street, Toombul, and the late Mr. P. J. Hottes, Maryborough). Miss K. Malloy presided at the organ, and during the signing of the register a vocal solo was rendered by Miss K. Dale.
The bride, who was given away by her brother (Mr. D. Hottes), chose a frock of white Marocain made on classical lines. Her veil was lent by Mrs. Frank Ryan, Paddington. The bridal bouquet was of white roses and chrysanthemums.
Misses Marie and Clarice Hottes (sisters of the bride), and Thelma and Rene Scriven (sisters of the bridegroom), who were the bridesmaids, were frocked in organdi frocks of pastel shades. They wore toques of silk raffia to tone, and carried bouquets of roses and gerberas.
Mr. T. Lewry (cousin of the bridegroom) was best man, and Messrs. E. Lewry and Colin Willnough acted as groomsmen.
After the ceremony a reception was held at Morena the home of the bride's mother, where Mrs. Hottes received the guests wearing a frock of black crepe de Chine relieved with white, and a hat to harmonise. Her bouquet was of red roses. Mrs. Scriven chose a frock of black Marocain trimmed with silver buttons, and she wore a black straw. Her bouquet was of red gerberas.
Subsequently Mr. and Mrs. Scriven left for their home at Kedron.
