Biography

Edward Houghton was born about 1705 in that part of Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts that later became the Still River part of Harvard, Massachusetts, He was the son of James Houghton and Mary Sawyer Houghton.

Edward married Abigail MacCoy (Coye, McCoy) of Pomfret, Connecticut, on November 6 1727. The marriage is recorded in the VR of both Lancaster and Pomfret. She was the daughter of Archibald MacCoy and Margaret Longley MacCoy.

Upon their marriage, they located in Pomfret, Windham County, Connecticut where they lived until about 1744 and where seven of their nine children were born. They then moved to Union, Tolland County, where they spent the remainder of their lives. He was described as a "housewright".

Edward Houghton died in Union, Tolland, Connecticut March 17, 1777.
