Hugh J. Houghton (47), Mary B. (45), Charles B. (18), Thomas H. (14), Robert E. (11). Hugh J. is a general clerk at insurance company. House is owned. [2]

1940 - Indiana, Floyd County, New Albany, 22-27, 18 Apr 1940
Sheet 13B shows H. Thomas Houghton (24) and wife Mary E. (24) and son William T. (1) living with his father-in-law, William H. Soergel (48) and his wife Rose L. (46). The home is at 622 Silver Street, is owned and valued at $3,500. Both H. Thomas and wife Mary report having completed 4 years of high school. All report they were born in Indiana and were living in the same house in 1935. H. Thomas is a brakeman for the steam railroad and father-in-law William is a conductor for the steam railroad. H Thomas reports he worked 10 weeks in 1939 and earned $135. William worked 48 weeks and earned $2,400. [3]

Harry Thomas Houghton, born 5 Oct 1915 in New Albany, IN is 25 when we completes his WWII Draft Registration Card. He is living at 2027 East Oak Street. He lists his wife Mary Elizabeth as the one who will always know his address. He is working for the Pennsylvania Railroad Company at 14th and Portland in Louisville, KY. He is reported too e 5'11'tall, weighs 145 pounds and has brown eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion. [4]

Sheet 16 of the census shows Harry T Haughton (34), wife Mary E (34) and children William T (11) and James F (5) living in the home at 920 East Oak Street. Harry worked 56 hours the week before the census and is a conductor of the railroad. [5]

H. Thos, and wife Mary E, are living at 920 E.Oak Street. He reports to be a photographer. Other Houghton's living in the area are; Anna, the widow of Robert E. at 1120 Burton, Jos at 1505 East Oak and Wm T. a student living with H. Thos and Mary. [6]

Harry Thomas Houghton, born 5 Oct 1915 in New Albany, died on 11 Jun 2005 at 8:50 P.M. at the Floyd Memorial Hospital. He is reported as a widowed photographer who was living at 1164 E. Knable Road in Georgetown when he died. His parents are listed as Hugh J. Houghton and Mary Breetz. The informant was his son, William, also of Georgetown, Indiana. He was buried at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Albany, IN. Cause of death is listed as pneumonia. [7]

Obituary - NEW ALBANY HOUGHTON, HARRY THOMAS, "TOM," 89, died Saturday at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany. He was the owner and operator of the old Houghton Studios in New Albany and was also retired from the old Pennsylvania Railroad. Tom was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Southern Indiana Rifle and Pistol Club and a 4th degree knight at Cardinal Ritter Council #1221 Knights of Columbus, all in New Albany. Survivors include his sons, William Houghton of Georgetown, IN, and James Houghton of Lanesville, IN, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial to follow in ST. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in New Albany. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St., New Albany. [8]
