Charles Ward Houghton was born in Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts May 22, 1830. He was the son of Joel Cornelius Houghton and Mary Stone Houghton. [1] [2]

Charles was married twice: First, to Louisa Maria Kimball on April 10, 1856). After her death September 9, 1863, he married, second, in Ashby, Middlesex County, Abby Francis Hayward on September 22, 1864. Abby was the daughter of John Hayward and Sarah Taylor Stone. [3]

Charles was a farmer all of his working life. He is remembered as a very quiet and devout man, and was nearly blind at the time of his death, [4]

Charles Ward Houghton died in Littleton, Middlesex County, December 15, 1916. He is buried in Westlawn Cemetery, in Littleton. [1] [2]
