Edmund K Houghton was born in 1857 in Keeseville, Essex, New York, United States, son of Henry Arvin Houghton (~1826–1899) and Sarah Dana Page (1833–1890).

Edmund and Flora Alice Brown were married. Flora was born on April 24, 1857 in St. Johnsbury Twp, Caledonia, Vermont. She was the daughter of Oliver Taylor Brown and Malinda (Bean) Brown. Their children were:
