Obituary: Richfield Springs, Otsego, New York. The death of Lafayette House, Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 26th, at the home of his son, Fred House, at Richfield Springs, removes another aged native of Columbia. His grandfather, Nicholas House, of 1769, a youthful Revolutionary patriot of Col. Clyde's regiment, who was a prisoner of war two years, married Katherine Spohn and though not a pioneer, was an early settler in town. George, one of their twelve children, married Nancy Stroup and conducted a hotel on the premises recently the home of Mrs. Maria Schuyler, and later build the nearby residence for many years the home of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Holden Fox. Lafayette, one of their thirteen children, married Elizabeth Eygabroat and they were the parents of the following nine children: Norman, Orville, Charley (dec.), Jay S., Clayton, Fred, George, Delbert and an only daughter Nellie, who died several years ago. Mrs. House's capable and helpful hands were folded to rest a year ago and now Mr. House follows at the advanced age of 88 years. Only words of praise are heard from those who knew them best.[8]
