Biography

Son of Samuel Houser and his first wife Susanna Leiter.

John married Rebecca Yeakle 29 July 1828 in Washington County, Maryland.[1]

In 1850 John and Rebecca were in Cavetown, Washington, Maryland. Children were Samuel age 18; Susanna age 15; Julian (female) age 13; John J age 10 and Lislie age 3.[2]

In the 1870 Census his birthplace is given as Pennsylvania.[3]

In 1880 John was in Cavetown, Washington, Maryland age 75 with daughter Catherine Houser age 34 and Jacob Eakle age 73 b Maryland.[4]

Mr. John Houser, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Cavetown, died this morning. Mr. Houser was a carpenter by trade, and was 88 years of age. He leaves the following children: Mr. Samuel Houser, of Cavetown; Mrs. Susan Ridenour, living in the west; Mr. Jacob Houser, of Cavetown, and Miss Kate Houser, a single daughter, of the same place. Mr. Houser's death was due to old age. He was a member of the Lutheran church of Smithsburg.
