Patrick was the second son of Patrick Houstoun, Knt. and Anne Hamilton, a daughter of John Hamilton, Knt. of Carriden and Bargany.[1][2] The date and place of his birth are unknown and are estimated.
On 26 November 1679 he was apprenticed to George Mossman, a merchant in Edinburgh,[3] and by 16 November 1686 he was admitted as a burgess and guildbrother of Dumbarton.[2] Patrick Houstoun was admitted, in right of his wife Isobel, as burgess and guildbrother of Glasgow 22 August 1693.[2][4]
Patrick served as an M.P. from Renfrewshire to the Scottish Parliament from 1698 until his death in July 1699.[2]
Marriage and Family
He married Isobel Johnston, daughter and heiress of George Johnstoun of Glasgow, merchant, on 5 December 1689[2] at Glasgow.[5] They had two sons:
Patrick Houstoun was buried 14 July 1699 at the Glasgow High Church in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.[10]
Research Notes
Richardson gives the date of their marriage only as "before August 1693," and Patrick's death as "shortly before 18 September 1699."[2] These dates are superseded by primary parish records.

I have now finished updating this profile. If anyone notices a typo, please correct or message me directly. We are now just waiting for the merge of Houston-3225 and Houston-1466 to be completed.
I am going to be updating this profile on behalf of the Magna Carta Project. If anyone knows of additional information or sources which need to be included, please either message me directly or post here. Thanks!
This profile is in a Richardson-documented trail between Gateway Ancestor Patrick Houston and Magna Carta surety barons Richard de Clare and Gilbert de Clare that needs development by the Magna Carta Project. I will soon be adding the project as co-manager of this profile and will add a project box and project section to the biography. This profile still needs to be developed against the project's checklist. Thanks!
