Born in Alabama to Ronald Vincent Houston and Virginia Beth Hanks. Ronald Houston, a Geologist, passed when JJ was about 6 months old. He was mining for gems in Georgia and the vein he was in collapsed in on him. Beth remarried a man named Tod Alva York. Beth died in January 1995 when she was driving JJ and they were hit head on by an oncoming vehicle. The driver in the other vehicle had been drinking. JJ was only survivor. JJ stayed with his step-father Tod York after Beth's death. Tod remarried a woman named Teresa Melaine Smith. Teresa brought 2 daughters into the marriage (Rachel Burt and Amanda Cawley) from 2 previous marriages. Tod and Teresa conceived George-Ryan York, born in 2000. JJ went to Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, AL where he graduated in 2007. He then went to the University of Alabama. Purchased first house in 2008 in Tuscaloosa, AL. Survived the tornado of 4/27/2011, but lost home in the process. Received a Bachelor of Science in Geology in 2011. Went to work in oil field as wellsite geologist for 2 years, in western Texas and northern Pennsylvania. Moved back to Alabama and began working for the Alabama Department of Environmental Management in 2013. Purchased home in 2014. Purchased 2nd Montgomery home in 2017 and became landlord of 1st home. Married Carmen Gabrielle Lowery on 4/23/2019.
