Biography

"Matthew Houston was a soldier form Augusta County VA during the Revolutionary War. 'Old Military Records' in the City Clerk's Office at Staunton VA, Augusta County VA, page 24 lists Matthew Houston in Capt. Samuel McCutcheoris Company, April 1, 1778 also, page 86 Oct 20 1778. The Houston Family has rendered valuable service in the Frontiers in Augusta County and Rockridge {Rockbridge]County, VA and in Washington and Blount Counties, TN since the early Indian Wars."
