Biography

Leonidas was born in 1834. His father was Alexander P Houston [1]

He married Penelope Melson.

He died in 1910. He is buried in Corinth Cemetery in Corinth, Heard County, Georgia.

Slaves

Upon his father's death Leonidas inherited four slaves from the estate. As Leonidas was still a minor his estate was under the control of his guardian, Asa Huggins (his mother was specified as guardian by the will but in 1852 Asa was assigned the position, the will specified he would reach his majority at age 21). An inventory from 1852 and the original will gives us the following names. Currently there is no record that Leonidas maintained ownership of slaves as an adult.

Tom (man) $800
Jonah "Jone" (man) $950
Hampton (man) $750
Amanda "Mandy" (girl) $500
