Biography

Abigail Elizabeth Hovey, the daughter of John Fairfield Hovey and Elizabeth Hill, was born 21 July 1816. On 1 January 1837 she married Dan Waugh[1], the son of Dan Waugh and Irene Smedley. They had 6 children: Albert Freeman, Clarissa Elizabeth, Sydney Horace, Emma Letitia, Lurena Elizabeth, and Frances Emily.[2]

Abigail died April 12, 1906 and was buried in McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas.[3]

1840 Census: Camden, Lorain, Ohio: Dan Waugh (would have been 39) plus 1 male under 5 (Albert Freeman 3), 1 male 10-15 (Dan 12), 1 female under 5 (Clarissa Elizabeth infant), 1 female 15-20 (Marion Bradfoot 16), 1 female 20-30 (Abigail 24)

1850 Census: Camden, Lorain, Ohio: Dan Waugh 49, Abigail 34, Albert 13, Sydney 8, Emogene 7, Lurena 3 (Dan was born in New York, Abigail in Vermont, the children all in Ohio.)

1860 Census: Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan, Wisconsin: Dan Waugh 58, Abigail 44, Albert 22, Sidney 18, Emogene 16, Lauriana 13, Frances 9 (Dan was born in New York, Abigail in Vermont, the children all in Ohio.)

1870 Census: Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan, Wisconsin: David (sic) Waugh 69, Abba 54, Albert 32, Lena 26, Frank 1, Burnett 59 (Dan’s brother) (Dan & Burnett were born in New York, Abba in Vermont, Albert in Ohio, Lena in France, Frank in Wisconsin.)

In 1880 Abigail age 63 was living with her son Albert Freeman Waugh and his family in Jackson, McPherson, Kansas.[4]

In 1900 Abigail 84 was living with her daughter Emma Bliss and two of her granddaughters. Her birth month is shown as July 1815.[5]
