Biography

Elizabeth Howard was the eldest of two surviving daughters of Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk, and his first wife Elizabeth Tilney, who were married on 30 April 1472, to 1497. [1]

While she was a young unmarried girl, the court poet John Skelton, visiting the Howard seat of Sheriff Hutton Castle, wrote some verses - "The Garland of the Laurel" - in praise of the Howard daughters, whereupon Elizabeth Tinley had the young women present him with an embroidered garland of silk, gold and pearls. This event, taking place before the mother's death in 1497, suggests that the young Howard daughters were then of courtable age. [2]

At some time probably before 1500, Elizabeth Howard married Thomas Boleyn, a courtier and bureaucrat in the service of Henry VII and Henry VIII. [3] Their marriage had three surviving children:

Mary - m. (1) Sir William Carey (2) Sir William Stafford; d. 1543
Anne - m. Henry VIII; d. 1536
George, Viscount Rochford - m. Jane Parker; d. 1536

Elizabeth Boleyn died on 3 April 1538 at the London residence of the Abbot of Reading, near Bayard's Castle, London, and was buried on 7 April in the Howard aisle of Lambeth church. [3]. By that date, she had lost her two younger children. Thomas Boleyn survived until 12 March 1638/9 and was buried at his seat of Hever, Kent.

Mary Boleyn is currently attached as a daughter, perhaps there has been a change elsewhere down the line that has resulted in the change you are seeing.

The father of Mary Boleyn's "Carey" children has never been proven to be Henry VIII. The children were never acknowledged as his. Until such time as that relationship is proved, they will have to stay connected as the children of William Carey, not Henry VIII. All of this is in the biographies for Mary Boleyn, William Carey, Catherine Carey and Henry Carey. Cheers, Elizabeth England Project Leader.

Elizabeth howard boleyn had three children, Anne boleyn tudor,

who you have on there, but also Mary boleyn-carey-stafford, and george boleyn. George had no children, but mary had catherine carey-knolleys, henry carey, anne stafford and edward stafford. Anne boleyn tudor had Elizabeth tudor, who was the last tudor to reign in england after edward tudor and mary tudor. ~ Message posted to Euro Aristo User Group
