Catherine was the daughter of Thomas Howard, the 2nd duke of Norfolk and Thomas' second wife, Agnes Tylney/Tilney.[1] She is said to have been born at Ashewell, Thorpe, Norfolk, England,[1] though her father's ducal castle was at Framingham, Suffolk, England.[2] Her birth date of 1499 is a guess, based on known dates and historical events.
The Birth Date is a rough estimate. See the text for details.
Note Elizabeth Tylney and Agnes Tilney are not the same person. Catherine's father was married twice, and his two wives happened to have similar names, but they were two different women.
Some of Catherine's half siblings were (Wikipedia lists 11):[3]
Lord Edmund Howard (c. 1472-1497 to 9 Mar 1539)
Admiral Sir Edward Howard (c. 1472-1497 to 25 Apr 1513)
Lady Elizabeth Howard (c. 1472-1497 to 3 Apr 1538)
Marcella Howard (c. 1472-1497 to - )
Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk (1473 to 25 Aug 1554)
She married before 1522, as her 1st, to Rhys ap Gruffydd/Griffith (FitzUryan), son of Sir Grufudd ap Rhys and Catherine St. John.[4][5] Her married name was Catherine Gruffydd, and they lived at Newton, Carmarthenshire, Wales, where Rhys was Mayor-Escheator of Carmarthen (1529-1530).[5] He was beheaded for treason in 1531.[2]
She married after 1533, as her 2nd, to Henry Daubeney, 1st and last Earl of Bridgwater, son of Giles Daubeney, 1st Baron Daubeney and Elizabeth Arundell.[3][1][6] Catherine and Henry had no children.[7] This marriage to Henry Daubeney apparently was not a happy one, as by 1535, he was asking for a divorce.[7]

Too many Profiles have either mixed up the wives of Thomas Howard or have tried to combine them as one because their maiden names are similar. They are 2 very different ladies. Also between the 2 wives there are 11 children, some profiles show 16. Unfortuneatly one of the extra children Richard Howard who is listed on the expanded profiles is not one of the 11 children and this puts me back on my presonal tree since now I have to start all over and find his parents.
