Biography

Marcus Nelson "Mark" Howard was born on 6 May 1868 in Amherstburg, Essex, Ontario, Canada to Boneparte Howard and Sarah.

In 1871 Marcus Howard (age 2) lived in Windsor, Essex, Ontario with his father Bonafille (60, Laborer), mother Sarah (32), and two others: Julia Williams (22, Servant) and John Hoyle (60, Laborer).[1]

Marcus Howard (age 27, residing in Windsor, born in Amherstburg Ont, Bachelor, Butcher, son of Bonaparte Howard & Sarah Howard) and Susie Dunn (age 21, residing in Windsor, born in Fenton Mich, Spinster, daughter of Geo Dunn & Catherine Leach) were married on 19 Nov 1896 in Windsor - the witnesses were Alma Oliver & Amelia Oliver.[2]

Mark and Susie had at least one child, who was born and died before the 1900 census.

In 1900 Marcus Howard (age 31, Butcher) lived in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan with his wife Susie (25) - they had been married 4 years, and Susie was the mother of 1 child (no children still living).[3]

Mark and Susie may have divorced, as he was listed as single on the 1910 census rather than a widower.

In 1910 Mark N Howard (age 37, Laborer) was a lodger at 125 Madison Ave in Detroit in the household of Leving F Brooks.[4]

Marcus N Howard (age 47, residing in Detroit, born in Canada, Butcher, son of Bone & Sarah) and Myrtle Southers (age 30, residing in Detroit, born in Michigan, daughter of Jerry & Susie) were married on 17 Jul 1916 in Detroit - they had each been married once before.[5]

In 1930 Marcus N Howard (age 59, Barber in Barber Shop) lived at 6416 Hartford[?] Avenue in Detroit with his wife Myrtle M (41), two daughters: Charlotte (6) and Bernice Crawford (19), son-in-law Percy A Crawford (24. Janitor at Auto Factory), and grandson Nelson A Crawford (0).[6]

In 1940 Mark Howard (age 74) lived at apt 207 E Adams in Detroit with his wife Myrtle (65), two daughters: Charlotte (9 [~16]) and Bernice Crawford (24 [~29], Waitress at Restaurant), grandson Nelson Crawford (10), and granddaughter Peggy Crawford (8).[7]

Marcus or Mark Howard passed away on 8 Nov 1946 in Detroit - he was 78 years old, born 6 May 1868 in Canada, his father was Bone Howard & his mother was Sara.[8] He is buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Detroit.[9]
