Biography

Martha was born about 1838 to parents Nathaniel Howard, Jr. and Sarah Callahan in Georgia.

In the 1850 U.S. Federal Census, "Martha M. A. Howard," age 11, is in the home of her parents, Nathaniel Howard, age 42, and Sarah Howard, age 30, in Division 12, Cass, Georgia, USA. Siblings in the household include Jeremiah Howard, age 19, William J. Howard, age 17, Mary S. Howard, age 8, Sarah A. Howard, age 5, and Candas C. Howard, age1. [1]

Martha Howard and Robert Wilson were married on 14 February, 1856, in Autauga County, Alabama. [2][3]

On the 1860 U.S. Federal Census, "Martha Wilson," age 21, is living with her husband, "R D Wilson," age 26, at Chestnut Creek, Autauga County, Alabama. Their children in the home are Francis Wilson, age 3, Mary Wilson, age 2, Roobert (sic) Wilson, age 1, and Andrew Wilson, age 4 months. [4]

In the 1870 U.S. Federal Census, "Martha A. Wilson," age 31, is living with her husband, "R.D. Wilson," age 37, at Precinct 4, Baker County, Alabama. Their children in the home include Francis M., age 13, Mary E., age12, Robert N., age 11, Andrew J., age 11, Catherine, age 7, Jasper, age 3, George W., age 1, and Mammon, age 5 months. The household includes the parents of Robert D. Wilson who are James D. Wilson, age 75, and Catherine Wilson, age 65. [5]

In the 1880 U.S. Federal Census, Martha A. Wilson, age 42, and Robert Wilson, age 42, reside at Choppers, Chilton County, Alabama. Their children are Robert N., age 21, Jackson, age 20, Catherine, age 17, Jasper, age 12, George W., age 10, William R., age 9, John S., age 4 and Henry S., age 4. [6]

In the 1900 U.S. Federal Census, Martha Wilson, age 61, widowed, is living in the home of her son, Henry Wilson, age 24, and his wife, Minnie Wilson, age 18. Besides Martha Wilson, the household includes a daughter, Pearl Wilson, age 10 months, and a niece, Bettie Wilson, age 4. [7]

In the 1910 U.S. Federal Census, "Marthy" (sic) Wilson, widow, is living with her son Andrew J. Wilson, age 50, his wife, Matilda Wilson, age 44, and his mother-in-law, Mary Traywich, age 73. [8]

On 23 November, 1915, in Chilton County, Martha Wilson made a widow's application for pension as the widow of Private Robert D. Wilson who died in 1885. [9]

On March 3, 1916, Martha A. Wilson received $20.00 in pension warrants provided under the act approved September 25, 1915, for the relief of needy Confederate soldiers and widows of those who have not remarried. This transaction was conducted in Chilton County, Alabama. [10]

Martha passed away about 1916.
