1651 Birth and Parents

Saunders estimates that Ann Howard was born, ca. 1651, the daughter of Matthew Howard and his wife Ann. [3] in Lower Norfolk County, Virginia. [4]

Saunders notes that the 1648 will of Richard Hall, which lists those of Matthew Howard's children who were born before 1648, names an Ann immediately after Matthew Howard the elder. Saunders concludes that this Ann is not the daughter Ann, who if she were the first child in order would not have married until she was 30, an unusual occurrance in the colonies, but rather was Ann the wife of the elder Matthew Howard. "As Ann (Howard) Greneffe's 4 children were minors when her husband wrote his 1686/7 will, (born after 1666), a first child born at about age 30 seems unrealistic." [3]

1648 Legatees of Richard Hall

Matthew Howard Sr. and wife Ann were legatees in the 1648 will of Richard Hall, in Va. Also legatees of Richard Hall were Matthew and Ann's five older children: Elizabeth b. 1639, Matthew Jr. b. 1641, Cornelius b. 1643, John b. 1645, and Samuel b. 1647. Two younger children of Matthew Sr. and Ann are not mentioned in Richard Hall's will because not born yet. They are Philip Howard b. 1649 and Anne Howard b. 1651. (see Documented Children of Matthew Howard and Anne- WikiTree Howard-8458).
