Biography

Note: Alternate date of birth: 27 Aug 1695.

He moved to Rutland, Massachusetts in 1719, where he was one of the original proprietors and a pioneer settler. He was a very active and prominent man in the new town. Reed's History of Rutland describes the wild state of the country at that time as "being dangerous for children to go from house to house, not only on account of Indians, but of ravenous bears and wolves. Mothers when sitting at the door with their children could see the wild beasts pass by with their young." [1]
