Arthur Howe was born at Great Ryburgh, Norfolk, England on 17 Jun 1865 to Richard Howe and Mary Ann Slegg.[1][2]
Arthur, a butcher, married Esther Smith (daughter of John Smith and Eliza Harrod) at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on 30 Sep 1896.[2]
He passed away at the Chemainus General Hospital[3] in Chemainus, British Columbia on 12 Jul 1936.[1] Arthur was survived by his wife, two daughters and three sons, as well as his mother and two brothers[3]:
Arthur Howe, one of the early pioneers of Chemainus and the Cowichan district, passed away on Sunday in the Chemainus General Hospital. The late Mr. Howe was a native of Norfolk, Eng., and came out to Chemainus in 1892 to join his uncle, the late Matthew Howe, who in 1885 was sent from England with machinery for the first Croft mill, forerunner of the present Victoria Lumber and Manufacturing Company limited. The deceased is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Alex Dunse of Vancouver, and Mrs. S. W. Kilvert of Ioco, and three sons, Arthur of Cowichan Lake, Ernest at home, and Harold of Great Central Lake, also three grandsons. His mother is still alive, residing at Great Ryburgh, Norfolk, Eng. Two brothers, Samuel and Barney, also survive.
Interment took place at Saint Michael & All Angels Anglican Cemetery in Chemainus.[4]
