Emanuel Scrope Howe, 2nd Viscount Howe of Langar, Nottinghamshire (b. c. 1699/1700 - 35),[1][2] sat for Nottinghamshire, 1722/32, and was Governor of Barbados from 1732 - 35.[3]

He was the son of:

  • Scrope Howe, 1st Viscount Howe, (d. 26 Jan 1713),[1][4]
  • and Juliana, dau. of William Alington, 3rd Baron Alington.

He succeeded his father to the viscountcy in 1713; and the baronetcy in 1730,[5] through his cousin Sir Richard Grobham Howe, 3rd Bart.[6]

On 08 April 1719 he married [Mary Sophia] Charlotte Kielmansegge.[7] Her mother Charlotte Sophia, Countess of Darlington (1675–1725), wife of Johann Adolph, Baron von Kielmansegg,[1] was the half-sister George I of Great Britain.[8][9]

Viscount and Viscountess Howe are the parents of:

  1. Brig-Gen. George Augustus Howe, 3rd Viscount Howe (b. c. 1724, d. 06 Jul 1758).[9]
  2. Adm. Richard Howe, 1st and last Earl Howe (b. 19 Mar 1725/6 - d. 05 Aug 1799).[9]
  3. William Howe, 5th Viscount Howe (b. 10 Aug 1729 - d. 12 Jul 1814).[9]
  4. Captain Thomas Howe (b. 1730 - d 1771)[10][11]

Death

Viscount Howe died in Barbados on 29 March 1735.

Wonder if any research has shed light on several of his unknown children, that have were mentioned in various documents? I descend from Joseph Howe (c1728, d1790 Virginia) who is speculated to have been his son. Thank you.
