Stephen was born in Lunenburg, Essex, Vermont on 29 Sep 1796. He was the fourth born child and third son of Stephen Howe and Judith Hunt.[1] He married Harriet Patterson about 1819, and they had three children.[2] He was a farmer, a wheelwright, a school teacher, and a merchant. He also was elected as Town Clerk for many years and served 12 terms as a representative from Lunenburgh to the state legislature. He served on the state constitutional convention before his death in 1873.[3]
