Biography

Julius Carl Howe[1][2] was born 25 Jun 1844[1] in Woldenberg, Neumark, Germany. In 1868 he married[3][4][1][5][6][7] Wilhelmina Zuelke. To their union was born eight children:

Paul R Howe (1872-1948)
Julius Howe Jr. (1872-1949)[3]

Albert Carl Howe (1878-1964)[3][4]

He immigrated to the United States in 1888[5][6] and settled in Minnesota, USA.

In about 1891 he moved to Concord Township, Dodge, Minnesota, USA. He was still living there in 1895,[3] working as a farmer.[3]

He was naturalized in 1897 in Dodge County, Minnesota, USA.[8]

He was still farming in Concord Township in 1900,[4] but he had moved to La Mars Township, Richland, North Dakota, USA, by 1910.[5]

By 1920, he was living at 3827 Central Avenue in Columbia Heights, Anoka, Minnesota, USA.[6]

He died 7 Jul 1924[1][2] in Columbia Heights[1][2] and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Section A, in Dodge Center, Dodge, Minnesota, USA.[1][7]

The household contained Julius Howe [white male, age 50, born in Germany, resident of Minnesota for 8 years, resident of this enumeration district for 4 years, farmer for 10 months of the year, both parents of foreign birth, not previously enumerated], Mina Howe [white female, age 54, born in Germany, both parents of foreign birth, not previously enumerated], Julius Howe Jr [white male, age 22, born in Germany, resident of Minnesota for 8 years, resident of this enumeration district for 4 years, farmer, 8, both parents of foreign birth, not previously enumerated], Willie Howe [white male, age 18, born in Germany, both parents of foreign birth, not previously enumerated], Carl Howe [white male, age 16, born in Germany, both parents of foreign birth, not previously enumerated], Guste Howe [white female, age 14, born in Germany, both parents of foreign birth, not previously enumerated]. They were enumerated 14 Jun 1895.

The household contained Julius Howe [head, white male, age 54, born Jun 1845 in Germany, married 32 years, parents born in Germany, immigrated in 1887, farmer, able to read and write but not speak English, renting his house], Wilhelmina Howe [wife, white female, age 59, born Mar 1841 in Germany, married 32 years, mother of six children with all still living, parents born in Germany, able to read and write but not speak English], Wilhelm M Howe [son, single, white male, age 24, born Apr 1876 in Germany, parents born in Germany, able to read, write and speak English, operator], Albert C Howe [single, white male, age 22, born Apr 1878 in German, parents born in Germany, able to read, write and speak English, farm laborer], and Augusta L Howe [single, white female, age 19, born Mar 1881 in Germany, parents born in Germany, able to read, write and speak English]. The household contained Julius C Howe [head, white male, age 66, married (once) for 14 years, born in Germany, as were his parents, immigrated in 1888, naturalized, able to read, write and speak English, farmer, renting farm#116], Wilhelmina Howe [wife, white female, age 69, married (once) for 14 years, mother of eight children with six still living, born in Germany, as were her parents, immigrated in 1888, able to read, write and speak English], Augusta S Howe [daughter, single, white female, age 27, born in Germany, as were her parents, immigrated in 1888, able to read, write and speak English], and Frank Tanner [hired man, single, white male, age 30, born in South Dakota, parents born in Germany, general farm laborer, able to read, write and speak English]. They were enumerated 30 Apr 1910.

1920 Census of Columbia Heights, Anoka County, Minnesota, sheets 4B/5A, shows the household of Julius Howe [dwelling and household 50]. The household contained Julius Howe [head, married, white male, age 75, owning his home free and clear, immigrated in 1888, naturalized in 1897, able to read, write and speak English, born in Germany, as were his parents, no occupation], Wilhelmina Howe [wife, married, white female, age 76, immigrated in 1888, naturalized in 1897, able to read, write and speak English, born in Germany, as were her parents], Agusta Howe [daughter, married, white female, age 38, immigrated in 1888, naturalized in 1897, able to read, write and speak English, born in Germany, as were her parents], Albert Howe [son-in-law, married, white male, age 37, able to read, write and speak English, born in Minnesota, parents born in Germany, railroad switchman], and Arthur Howe [grandson, single, white male, age 7, attended school, born in Minnesota, father born in Minnesota, mother born in Germany]. They lived at 3827 Central Avenue and were enumerated 3 Jan 1920.

Research Notes

His wife and children immigrated to the Unites States near the end of 1887 without him. It is likely that he immigrated before then and sent for them from where he was. Need to find his immigration record.
