Biography

^[1]Daniel Howell was born in England about 1660, married in New Jersey or Pennsylvania, Sept.4, 1686 to Hannah Lakin. He died in Solebury Township, Bucks Co. Pa., Sept.1739. Their daughter:
CATHERINE HOWELL married in Hunterdon Co. N.J. to William Rittenhouse, of Rosemont near Prallsville, N.J. She was his second wife, first wife unknown. (J. Grannville Leach, Memorials of Reading, Howell Families, pp. 139-142.)"

^[2]William Rittinghousen - (b. 1695 at Cresheim, near Germantown, Pennsylvania; d. 1767 in Rosemont, New Jersey), s. Gerard or Garret Rittinghausen; m. Catharine—supposed—Howell (d. 1778). ...

William and his wife, Catharine, are buried in the old private burying ground, east of Prallsville stone quarry, on land that was formerly a part of the Ritenhouse estate. Their graves are marked by common field stones with the inscriptions: 'W. R. 1767' and C. R. 1778'

Some sources say that William Rittenhouse left PA for NJ as early as 1719 because he was disowned by his family for marrying outside of his faith in this year. However, he remained in his father's will and inherited land in PA on his death.

Ritiinghuysen, William, of Amwell, Hunterdon County; will of.
Son William, the land where he lives. Son Peter Rittinghuysen, the land where he lives, with the saw-mill. Son Isaac, five shillings, Son Lot, the plantation where "I live," and he is to allow "my widow, Catherine" to live in the house and provide for her. Son Moses, the plantation on which he lives. To my daughter Priscilla's heir, called and known by the name of William Search, 20 shillings. To my widow, Catharine, and my daughters, Susannah, Anne, and Hannah, my personal estate.

Executors: Sons, William and Peter.

Witnesses: Edward Prall, MaJakiah Bonham, Lot Ritringhuysen
