REV. DAVID BENJAMIN , born October 28, 1771 at Mattituck, Long Island, New York, the son of Amaziah and Mary (Howell) Benjamin; bapt. February 17, 1773 at Mattituck (Parish rec); died April 19, 1848, age 70-6-0 and is buried in the Aquabogue Cemetery on L.I.
He married Deziah/Desiah Terry on June 29, 1799 at Mattituck (Parish rec), the dau. of John Cleaves and Temperance (Conklin) Terry. She was born July 12, 1778 at South old and died November 22, 1848, age 70-4-10 (gs) and is buried with her husband.[1]
In 1791 he was the Deacon of the Congregational Church at Aquebogue and was later minister of the Congretational Church at Baiting Hollow, LI There was a small settlement there and a church was errected in 1803.
He was located in the 1810, 1820, and 1830 census records of Riverhead, LI. In the Baiting Hollow Congregational Church is a plaque bearing the following inscription: "In memory of Rev. David Benjamin, Pastor of Baiting Hollow Church from his ordination Aug. 1820 until his death 1848."
