Research Notes

Petition for the Partition of the Thomas Howell Estate Bk. 16, pp. 432-471, Recorder's Office, St. Charles, Mo. March 3, 1874 (Not available online)
Petitioners: Coanza B. Blacketer; F. W. Hinman and wife Susan A. Hinman; Wilson Steele and wife Lucinda Steele; Joseph T. Howell; James W. Howell; John A. Howell vs. Defendants: Eliza A. Howell; Pizarro W. Howell; Alonzo B. Howell; James C. Howell; Amazon C. Howell; Eviza L. Coshow and A. J. Coshow, her husband; Amandelia Yarnell and her husband, Memory Yarnell; John F. Howell; Lewis M. Howell; Susan Howell; Marion M. Howell, a minor; Eliza A. Fisher; Nicholas T. Fisher; John W. Fisher; Franklin H. Fisher; Jesse Fisher; James E. Fisher; Mary S. Fisher; Clay O. Fisher; Mellie C. Fisher [All above named Fishers are minors]
Mary Fisher and her husband Jesse Fisher In the above petition, 11 of the children of Thomas Howell are named- one as a petitioner and ten as defendants. The youngest of the fourteen children died in 1851. Jemima E. Fisher (Dec.) is represented by her 9 children as defendants. Therefore, Susan A. Hinman, (Susan A. Howell married F. W. Himan June 5, 1848 St. Charles County, Missouri) Lucinda Steele, (petitioners) and Susan Howell (defendant) must be daughter of Larkin Howell and sisters of his sons - Joseph T. Howell, James W. Howell, John A. Howell (petitioners) and Francis Marion McKinney Howell (defendant). There have been a number of instances in the Howell family where two children in the same family have been given the same name. Since SUSANNAH was a favorite name in the Boone, Callaway and Howell families, It is believed that Larkin named one daughter Susannah Amanda Howell and another Susannah Jemima Howell.[2]
