Viola Howell Smith passed away surrounded by her loving daughter and family on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Merit Health Rankin Medical Center in Brandon. She was 98.
A native of Pace, Mississippi and born July 5, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Elzie Howell and the later Ludie Kurkendall Howell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.R. Smith; daughter, Catherine Pittman; three sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Pierce, of Pearl; sister, Ruby Neal, of Alabama; nine grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Greenville, the Rev. Anthony Prestage officiating. Visitation will be held 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland.
