Biography

I was born in Monroe Michigan , February 17th 1966 , to Larry gene Howell and Dorothie Louis ( Wright ) Howell . In the early years we lived in Ecorse , Michigan . This is where I started kindergarten . We moved to Belleville Michigan when I was in first grade . Later we moved to our new house in Ypsilanti Michigan and it's there I finished grade school and attended junior high school. Many of my fond memories included taking trips down south to visit family . Those were the days when we dressed up for church on Sunday and we all gathered around the table to pray before we dug in to all the great southern comfort food spread before us . Lazy summer days sitting on the porch swing , telling stories , singing old time folk / gospel songs and drinking yoohoo , Brown cows , or rc colas . Even back then I always was fascinated by my southern family . I loved the way they talked , the way they cooked , the way they sang songs that were as old as the mountains where they lived . I loved that they had class , dignity , and values that you don't see today . They were all hard working honest folk and loved one another unconditionally without judgment . It's all this that makes me who I am today . I carry the same values , and old traditions in my heart . It's why I'm on this incredible journey . To find out more of what makes me who I am .

I'm hoping you'll be a bit closer than 24 degrees from Sir Alec Guinness tomorrow as I've just connected the husband of Susan (Sturgill) Barnhill.

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or special event. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Hi Barb,

We’re on week five and your last stop on the guided tour.

Hopefully, you're feeling like a WikiTree pro! If not, you can always revisit the tour stops via the comment boxes on the right side of your profile.

You've covered a lot of ground the past few weeks. Today, we want to give you just a few more tools that can take you even deeper into the WikiTree forest without getting lost: How to Dig a Little Deeper.

Feel free to message me if you have questions,

Susie - Wikitree Messenger :-)

Barb --

You may have been hard at work adding family members and getting connected to those that are already here. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now. So, this week we're going to look at how to work with your Watchlist: How to Manage Your Watchlist.

As always, your questions are welcome!

Hi Barb,

You have been here for a while now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know all of us a little better.

You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

Have questions? We want to help! Click the name above any of your comments, then ask in the comment section of that volunteer's page.

It's time for your next stop on the guided tour!

This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.

Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!

Please let me know if you have questions. :-) If the above link does not work from your email, please go to your profile in the public comments and it will work from there.

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

Hi –

I'm a member of the Mentor project, and I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Do you have any questions I can help you with?

Shirley

You are now a confirmed member, and you can begin adding your family members. As we've stated, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum:Have you found any ancestors who participated in the American Revolution? Welcome!

KBA

Greetings

Welcome to WikiTree! The email we just sent has helpful links to get you started on your Wikitree genealogical journey.

WikiTree differs from other genealogy websites in that our goal is to have a single profile per person, and thus we share ancestors and collaborate as a GLOBAL collective team!

What interests have guided you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into our tall and many branched tree?

When you confirm your email address, you’ll be given an opportunity to volunteer to help document our collective family history. Use the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests.

When you volunteer, one of our Greeters will confirm your membership. Then you'll be able to add your family to the tree!

We're really excited you are here!
