Thomas Howeth was born in 1797 and died in 1855. He was a presumed son of William Howeth and Mary Unknown.
There are no sources that show him with a middle name or initial, and some researchers have ceased using it.
He married Nancy Ann James in 1817 in Rhea County, Tennessee (part of Rhea became Hamilton County two years later). [1]
On 27 August 1821, Thomas and Nancy Howeth appointed Tandy James (Nancy's brother) as their agent to receive a legacy due to Nancy as the daughter of Betsey (Matthews) James and granddaughter of James Matthews of Stokes County, NC. The document is four pages in length, but see images 22 and 25 for statement of Nancy's maiden name and relationship to Betsey James.[2]
Thomas Howeth's household was enumerated in Hamilton County, Tennessee in 1830. It consisted of 12 persons, all white: 1 male under 5; 4 males and 3 females 5-9; 2 males 10-14; 1 male and 1 female 30-39. [3]
Thomas lived in Jackson County, Alabama by late 1834. On 6 October, another of Nancy's brothers, John James of Jackson County, Alabama appointed Thomas Howeth "of the county and state aforesaid" as his agent to collect his share of James Matthews' legacy. The document is four pages in length, but see image 34 for possible signature of Thomas Howeth on the receipt.[4]
Thomas and his family were in Rusk County, Texas by 1850.[5] He died in Cooke County, Texas in 1855. [6][7]
He is buried at Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville, Cooke County, Texas, USA. [7]
