Biography

Robert was born in 1804 in Argyll, Scotland. He was the son of William Howie and Janet Picken.

In 1839 he came to the United States with his mother. [1]

He was one of the founding members of the Scottish Settlement at Argyll.

He never married.

When his sister Margaret McDonald and her husband died he took in two of their sons,John and Robert. [2]

He passed away in 1880.

Obituary

Rockford Daily Register, Wednesday, January 12, 1881

December 29, at the residence of Andrew McDonald, Argyle, Robert Howie, died in the 76th year of his age. Mr. Howie was a native of Argyleshire, Scotland. At an early day, he emigrated to this country and became one of the founders of the Scotch Church and Settlement at Willow Creek.

For thirty-three years he was a ruling elder and one of the most liberal supporters of the church. The money and ground upon which the church edifice stands were his gifts.
