William was born in 1839 in Canada. His parents were Samuel Howie and Jennet Howie.
They immigrated to Canada in 1836. The family later settled in Winnebago County, Illinois and were part of the Scottish Settlement in Argyle.[1][2][3]
William passed away in 1872.
