Based on this reference: Peirce, Ebenezer Weaver. Contributions: Biographical, Genealogical, and Historical. Boston: David Clapp & Son, 1874. Page 120, Abigail Hathaway (Hathaway-1010), who was the widow of Ensign David Peirce was the mother of Seth Howland. The reference does not list Abigail as a wife, rather, Seth's two marriages are listed as Abigail Ashley and Phylena Hoskins. The Peirce book referenced, on pages 150-151, states that Abigail had two daughters out of wedlock, but nothing about a son. However, page 120 states that Seth was the son of Joshua and Abigail.
