William Howland had eight children, all baptized in Little Canfield, Essex, England.^[1][2]

In 1600, Richard Howland of Thaxted mentioned his nephew, William Howland of Little Canfield in his will, and he appointed him to be his executor for his estate. Also, he bequeathed £8 to William Howland of Little Canfield's son, Richard Howland, and he added to bequeath 40 shillings each to William Howland's six children.^[3]

William Howland of Stone Hall was buried on 3 February 1608 in Little Canfield, Essex, England.^[2]

About the end of the 17th century one branch of the Howlands seems to have removed to “Much Easton," whence they were brought to Little Canfield for burial; and another to Green Crofts in this parish, where they remained for about a century.^[2]
