Biography

Josua Hoyle was born in England.

Josua was born in 1580. He married on 2 December 1595 at St Chad, Rochdale, Lancashire. ^[1] They had the following children, all born in Rochdale:

1. George Hoyle b. 1596 ^[2]
2. Josua Hoyle (1598-1672) ^[3][4]
3. John Hoyle (1599-1702) ^[5][6]
4. Son d. 9 April 1600, likely at birth since there is no christening record. ^[7]
5. Ester Hoyle b. 1605 ^[8]
6. James Hoyle b. 1607 ^[9]
7. Nathaniel Hoyle b. 1610 ^[10]
8. Isacke Hoyle b. 1614 shortly after Josua’s death ^[11]

Josua died 11 June 1614 shortly before the birth of his last child. ^[12]

Josua’s wife is not listed in any of the christening or burial records even though it is clear she outlived him at least long enough to give birth to their last child.

While the marriage is recorded at St. Chad, family burials are at Wardelworth, St. Mary, sometimes called Hundersfield, currently called St. Mary of the Baum. The chapel wasn’t built until 1742 so the burial field existed long before the chapel.
