Lydia Hoyt was the daughter of David Hoyt and Judith Currier of Amesbury, Massachusetts. [1][2] She was born about 1767, based on her age of 82 at her death in 1849. [3][4]
She married Jonathan Sargent at Amesbury on July 20, 1794 at Amesbury. [5] Jonathan was born there on on January 18, 1771, son of Thomas Sargent and Sarah Clement. [6][7][1]
Her father, David Hoyt Jr. wrote his will on December 10, 1796, and among his legacies, he left daughter Lydia Sargent, wife of Jonathan Sargent, $4.00, to be paid by her brothers Moses and William, once William reaches age 21. [2]
Jonathan Sargent, yeoman of Amesbury, died of a fever on March 20, 1814. [6][8]
He died intestate and on June 8, 1814, his widow Lydia requested the court to have Jacob Brown appointed administrator, and on October 17, 1815, the court at Haverhill approved Jacob Brown and an allowance of up to $100.00 and personal items as she chooses, from his estate, as necessities. The court also ordered a public sale of Jonathan's personal estate. [8]
His personal estate was inventoried on June 27, 1814 and was assessed at $315.05. On October 17, 1815, Jacob Brown administrator submitted a list of Jonathan Sargent's debts to the court that amounted to $340.78, including taxes owed, funeral and grave expenses, doctor visits and other debts. Among the debtors were:
On March 7, 1815, Jacob Brown notified the court, that Thomas Sargent, minor aged above 14 years, son of Jonathan Sargent, deceased, had chosen Moses Sargent 4th, of Amesbury as his guardian. [9]
On June 27, 1820, the court ordered that a balance of $12.44, remaining be paid to son Thomas. Thomas Sargent, only child and heir to Jonathan's estate, having reached full aged submitted his approval of the accounting (undated). [8]
On June 30, 1820 Jacob Brown submitted an additional account of the estate. [8]
After Jonathan Sargent's death, widow Lydia married second, Micheal Emery on March 23, 1815, as his second wife. [6][3]
Lydia died May 15, 1849 aged 82 [3] at Sanborton, New Hampshire. [4][10]
