Although she was born within a few days of a girl by the same name, the Hannah Hoyt who married Isaac Marvin was NOT the daughter of Samuel Hoyt and Hannah Belding as many family trees assume. Proof:
For reference, several girls names Hannah Hoyt (Hait, etc.) were born around 1773 +/- 6 years in Connecticut (numerous others were earlier and later):
Hannah Hoyt/Hait, daughter of Capt. Joseph & Jane, b. 28 Jan 1768, bapt. 20 Mar 1768 in Stamford Hannah Hoyt, daughter of Samuel (3rd) & Sarah, b. 14 Feb 1768 in Stamford Hannah Hoyt, daughter of Thaddeus & Hannah, b. 16 Oct 1768 in Stamford Hannah Hoyt, daughter of Jonathan, b. 9 Oct 1771 in Norwalk Hannah Hoyt, daughter of Joseph (5th) and Hannah, b. 25 Dec. 1772, bapt. 14 March 1773 in Stamford Hannah Hoyt (1), daughter of Samuel (4th) and Hannah Belding, b. 16 August 1773, bapt. 22 Aug 1773, d. 30 Aug 1773, in Stamford Hannah Hait, daughter of Thaddeus, bapt. 14 Nov 1773 in Stamford (note: several siblings were baptized at the same time, so the baptismal date does not suggest a birth date) Hannah Hait, daughter of Hanford & wife, bapt. 3 Nov 1776 in Stamford Hannah Hoyt (2), daughter of Samuel (4th) and Hannah Belding, b. 16 Nov. 1776, d. 21 Feb. 1777 in Stamford Hannah Hitt, b. 19 Mar 1778 in Branford Hannah Hoyt, daughter of Elijah & Abigail, b. 13 Jul 1778 in Norwalk Hannah Hoyt, daughter of Uriah & Jane, b. 5 Aug 1779 in Stamford Hannah Hoyt (3), daughter of Samuel (4th) and Hannah Belding, b. 6 Oct. 1786, bapt. 21 Dec. 1786 in Stamford; d. 18 Jan. 1850 in Stamford (unmarried)
Other women named Hannah Hoyt (Hait, etc.) who married about 1794 +/- 10 years in Connecticut: Hannah Wait/Hait m. Timothy Reynolds, 25 Feb 1786 in Stamford Hannah Hoyt m. Joshua Scofield, 2 Feb 1794 in Stamford Hannah Hoit m. Hezekiah Jennings, 27 Nov 1794 (or 1795) in New Canaan Hannah Haite m. Hezekiah Jennings, 27 Nov 1795 (or 1794) in Norwalk Hannah Hoyt m. Timothy Reynolds, 25 Feb 1796 in Stamford Hannah Hoyt m. Joseph Banks, 17 Nov 1796 in Danbury Hannah Hoyt m. William Henry Stevens, 18 May 1797 in Stamford Hannah Hoyt m. Daniel Bouton, 17 Oct 1803 in Stamford Hannah Hoyt m. Peter Scofield, 17 Dec 1804 in Stamford
The gravestone of Hannah (Hoyt) Marvin in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby, Ohio is broken and, unfortunately, the white marble is weathered. The words that can be read for certain with ease (as of 2000): "Hannah wife of Isaac Marvin Died **** Aged ****"
Unfortunately, rubbings the old headstones of Isaac and Hannah Hoyt, don't make her dates any clearer. Isaac's clearly marked headstone leans slightly forward and so has been every so slightly sheltered from the weather for the past century and a half and is more legible. While interment records at Oakland Cemetery are generally good, they do not confirm Hannah's birth date, death date, age at death or burial date.
However, photographs of Hannah's grave stone taken by Nick Sheedy allows the death date to be read, and hints at her age at death. The day is certainly 27 and the year 1858, and the month appears to be May -- confirming the death date that has been handed down by most descendants: 27 May 1858.
As for the age at death, her gravestone is so badly weathered that is cannot be read in-person, a photo by Nick Sheedy (with good shadows and the contrast adjusted) make it clear enough that it to read "84 Y, 7 M, 10 D." For the years, the 8 is clear enough, and the 4 is very likely, confirming 84 years. For months, the 7 looks the same as the 7 in 27 above. The 10 looks right, but could be 16. I do not believe that the days read 11, 12 or 13.
Old family notes by a great-granddaughter, Doris Houpt, recorded Hannah's birth date as the "14th or 16th"of August 1773. Other researchers claimed she was born on the 15th, 16th or 17th of August 1773. The 1904 book of Marvin descendants gives her birth date as "15 (?17) Aug., 1773." And the 1884 biographical sketches of her son, Stephen, and her grandson, Charles W., each give her birth date as 19 August 1773.
As such, the best we can say is that Hannah (Hoyt) Marvin was born about 11-19 August 1773.

1820: Weston, Fairfield, CT [3]
1830: Sharon, Richland, OH [4]
1840: Richland, OH [5]
1850: Jackson, Richland, OH [6]
It is unclear whether Hannah died in Shelby where some of her children and children lived or just outside of town in Jackson Township where she lived for many years.
The death date for Hannah Marvin (27 May 1858) is given by most researchers and accounts. The date was claimed to be the "27th of March 1858" in the 1884 biographical sketch of her grandson, Charles W. Marvin of Gratiot Co., Michigan, but this was likely a mis-transcription of handwriting by the compiler of those sketches (confusing March and May), which I noticed in several instances.
The 1901 biographical sketch of T.S. Marvin (and other accounts) states that Hannah (Hoyt) Marvin, died in 1858 "at the age of eighty-four." Notes by Doris Houpt (daughter of H.K. and Ruth (Marvin) Houpt of Shelby, Ohio) say that the gravestone indicated that Hannah (Hoyt) Marvin was "aged 84 years, 9 months and 11 or 13 days" at her death -- apparently transcribing the inscription from Hannah's gravestone when it was more legible. However Nick Sheedy's interpretation of the age given on the headstone would exclude 11 or 13 days.
Given the death date, and the likely age at death (84 Y, 7 M, 10 D) , her birth date would be 17 August 1773. Alternatively, if she was aged 84 Y, 7 M, 16 D, she would have been born on 11 Aug 1773.

My great-grand-aunt Doris' notes would have the birth date as the 14th or 16th of August 1773. Other researchers claimed she was born on the 15th, 16th or 17th of August 1773. The 1904 book of Marvin descendants gives her birth date as (and I quote) "15 (?17) Aug., 1773." And the 1884 biographical sketches of her son, Stephen, and her grandson, Charles W., each give her birth date as 19 August 1773.
As such, the best we can do is say that Hannah (Hoyt) Marvin was born about 11-19 August 1773.

The daughter of Samuel "4th" and Hannah (Belding) Hoyt, Hannah Hoyt was born 16 August 1773 and baptized 22 Aug 1773 in Stamford. Town records indicate that she died 30 Aug 1773. A published 1871 genealogy of the Hoyt family by David W. Hoyt corroborates that the same Hannah, born 16 August 1773 and baptized 22 August, died 30 August 1773. Moreover, the Hoyt genealogy (and town records) further indicate that Samuel and Hannah (Belding) Hoyt had two more daughters named Hannah: one born 16 Nov. 1776 who died 21 Feb. 1777; the other was b. 6 Oct. 1786, baptized 21 Dec. 1786, and lived in Stamford, unmarried, where she died 18 Jan. 1850. Samuel Hoyt's probate record does not mention a daughter named Hannah who married Isaac Marvin, but does does name his daughter Hannah Hoyt.
