Thomas Hoyt III was born on May 17, 1731 at Amesbury, Massachusetts, son of Thomas (II) and Ruth (Barnard) Hoyt. [1] He was baptized on April 23, 1732. [2]
His father died c1743/4 and Thomas, being aged about 14, chose his uncle Timothy Hoyt as his guardian. [3]
He was a tanner, moved to Canterbury, New Hampshire in 1771/2. [2]
Military
Thomas Hoyt was a member of the Trainband of Canterbury New Hampshire and was a soldier in the 3rd Regiment of New Hampshire Militia. [2][4]
1776: He signed the Association Test of New Hampshire. [4]
1776: He was in Captain James Shepherd's Company in Cambridge. [4]
1777: January 1: Thomas enlisted in Colonel Thomas Stickney's Regiment of General Stark's Brigade for three years. [4]
Family
He married Miriam Kimball of Haverhill, Massachusetts on September 5, 1754. [1][2] Miriam was born on July 14, 1736, daughter of Abner and Dinah (Barnett) Kimball. [5][4]
He died while serving in the Revolutionary Army on September 1, 1778. [2]
His widow Miriam married Benjamin Blanchard November 26, 1781. [2]
Children
Abner born on December 17, 1755 [1]; married Martha Weeks [4]; moved to Wheelock, Vermont. [6]
Phoebe born on November 22, 1756 [1]; married David Ames [4]; lived in Canterbury, New Hampshire where Phebe died on October 30, 1838. [6]
Ruth born on July 24 1759 [1]; married Sargent Morrill[4] on September 16, 1777; removed to Danville and Wheelock, Vermont. [6]
Thomas born on April 14, 1762 [1]; married ___ Morrill [4]; died in Danville, Vermont. [6]
Sarah born on November 13, 1765 [1]; married Abraham Morrill [4] on March 24, 1785; resided at Danville and Wheelock before removing to Ogden, New York. Sarah died at October 4, 1847 at Ogden. [6]
Barnard born ___; married Judith Morrill [4] on November 22, 1792. [6]
Jonathan born on January 21 1773; died at sea. [4]
