He married first on June 28, 1856 at Haverhill, Massachusetts, Mary Ann Irwin, who was born about 1834 in Swanton, Vermont, daughter of George and Ellen/Eliza Irwin. She died at Haverhill on November 14, 1860 of typhoid fever.
He married second, Jane Knight Noyes of West Newbury on December 4, 1862. She was born at West Newbury, Massachusetts on July 20, 1840, the daughter of Stephen and Lydia (Ordway) Noyes. [1][2]
He served in the Civil War, Massachusetts 1st Battalion, Company A, enlisting in February, 1862 as a private, He was discharged after 3 years of service in February, 1865. His rank was Wagoner.
He died July 19, 1917 at Merrimac, Massachusetts and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Haverhill, Massachusetts, along with his wife Mary, wife Jane/Jennie who died in 1924, daughter Mary who died in 1934 and daughter Alice who died in 1957.

Charles Emery born August 3, 1872 at West Newbury; married November 26, 1908 at Merrimac, Annie Wells, who was born in Wells, Maine, daughter of Benjamin and Cynthia (Littlefield) Wells.
Alice Jane born December 2, 1875 at Amesbury; died in 1957.
