Biography

Joseph John Hubbard was born 9 Sep 1801 in Spitalfields, London, England to William Hubbard and Elizabeth (Unknown) Hubbard. He was christened at Spitalfields Christ Church on 17 Jan 1802.[1]

Joseph John Hubbard married Mercy Garnham on 9 Sep 1828 at Saint Leonards, Shoreditcch, London.[2]

Joseph and Mercy had eleven children: Susannah Mercy (Hubbard) Williams (1829-1884), Isabella Garnham Hubbard (1831-1911), Joseph Samuel Hubbard (1833-1854), Elizabeth Dutton Hubbard (1835-1918), Penelope Hubbard (1837-1908), Louisa Hubbard (1840-1910), Thomas William Hubbard (1842-1871), David John Hubbard (1844-1908), Alice Sarah Hubbard (1846-1882), Alfred Edward Hubbard (1847-1918), and Emma Hubbard (1849-1927).

In 1841 Joseph Hubbard (age 39-43) lived at Brudenell Place in Shoreditch with his wife Mercy (33-37) and six children: Susannah (11), Isabella (10), Joseph (8), Eliza (5), Penelope (3), and Louisa (1), as well as Amelia Green (13).[3]

In 1851 Joseph J Hubbard (age 49, Solicitor) lived at Grove Hill Terrace in St Giles Camberwell, Surrey with his wife Mercy (44) and eleven children: Susanna (21), Isabella (20), Joseph (18, Articled Clerk), Elizabeth (15), Penelope (13), Louisa (10), Thomas (8), David (7), Alice (5), Alfred (3), and Emma (2), as well as three servants: Mary Sellar (23), Martha Sellar (22), and Jane Drudge (20).[4]

In 1861 Joseph J "Halbard" (age 59, ...) lived at Clapton East Side, St John Hackney, London with his wife "Mary" (54) and nine children: Isabella (30), Elizabeth (2[25]), Penelope (22), Louisa (21), Thomas (18, Scholar), David (16, Scholar), Alice (15, Scholar), Alfred (13, Scholar), and Emma (12, Scholar), as well as two servants: Susannah Seuner (20, Housemaid) and Emma Edwards (23, Cook).[5]

Joseph's wife passed away in 1864.

Joseph passed away on 25 Sep 1870: "HUBBARD Joseph John. Effects under £25,000. Resworn at the Stamp Office September 1872 Under £20,000. 30 January. The Will of Joseph John Hubbard late of Bucklersbury in the City of London Gentleman who died 25 September 1870 at Anlaby House Upper Clapton in the County of Middlesex was proved at the Principal Registry by Thomas William Hubbard of Anlaby House Esquire and David John Hubbard of 24 Bucklersbury Gentleman the Sons and John Parker Williams of Hildrop-crescent Camden-road Holloway in the said County Esquire three of the Executors."[6] His death was registered in Hackney in the third quarter of the year.[7] He is buried at West Norwood Cemetery and Crematorium in Lambeth, London.[8]
