Biography

David John Hubbard was born in 1844 in Shoreditch, Middlesex, England to Joseph John Hubbard and Mercy (Garnham) Hubbard. His birth was registered in Shoreditch in the second quarter of the year.[1]

In 1851 David Hubbard (age 7) lived at Grove Hill Terrace in St Giles Camberwell, Surrey with his father Joseph J (49, Solicitor), mother Mercy (44), and ten siblings: Susanna (21), Isabella (20), Joseph (18, Articled Clerk), Elizabeth (15), Penelope (13), Louisa (10), Thomas (8), Alice (5), Alfred (3), and Emma (2), as well as three servants: Mary Sellar (23), Martha Sellar (22), and Jane Drudge (20).[2]

In 1861 David "Halbard" (age 16, Scholar) lived at Clapton East Side, St John Hackney, London with his father Joseph J (59), mother "Mary" (54), and eight siblings: Isabella (30), Elizabeth (2[25]), Penelope (22), Louisa (21), Thomas (18, Scholar), Alice (15, Scholar), Alfred (13, Scholar), and Emma (12, Scholar), as well as two servants: Susannah Seuner (20, Housemaid) and Emma Edwards (23, Cook).[3]

In 1871 David J Hubbard (age 27, Solicitor) lived in Hackney, London with eight of his siblings: Isabelle G (40), Elizabeth D (35), Penelope (33), Louisa (31), Thomas W (28, Banker Clerk), Alice S (25), Alfred E (23), and Emma (22).[4]

In 1881 David Jno Hubbard (age 57[37], Solicitor) lived in Eltham, London with six of his sisters: Isabella G (58[50]), Elizabeth (45), Penelope (43), Louisa (41), Alice (35), and Emma (30), as well as servant Angelina M Hipwell (21).[5]

In 1891 David J Hubbard (age 45, Solicitor) and his sister Lousia (47) were visitors at Kings Road in Brighton, Sussex.[6]

In 1901 David J Hubbard (age 57, Solicitor) lived at Eltham Road in London with four of his sisters: Isabella (70), Elizabeth (65), Penelope (63), and Louisa (60), as well as two servants: Sarah Stewart (20, Cook) and Florence M Dowding (22, Housemaid).[7]

David passed away on 13 Aug 1908: "HUBBARD David John of Holly Bank Eltham-road Kent and 110 Cannon-street in the city of London died 13 August 1908 at Holly Bank aforesaid Probate London 2 December to Charles Eve and Charles Henry Eve solicitors. Effects £35739 13s. 6d."[8] His death was registered in Lewisham, London in the third quarter of the year.[9] He is buried at West Norwood Cemetery and Crematorium in Lambeth, London.[10]
