Hi Max,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Max, It is unfortunate that on a shared tree, with only so many members actively researching that many times, profiles here are empty, incomplete, and neglected. Poor Edmund Hubbard has had at least 30 merges of duplicates. Sometimes things get lost. Most of his profile had sources, they just got lost or were not evident. I've done some work on him today, so he is now fairly well sourced, although I think some more work could be done.

I wish to also reiterate Jillaine's comment below.

Wikitree is about collaborating until we get it "right as it can be" so we are open to suggestions and facts with good sourcing behind them.

Wouldn't it be lovely, if Wikitree had hundreds of professional genealogists all volunteering to make this work.

Looks like you've got concerns about Hobart-14 and Unknown-137651. I encourage you to use the "Ask a question" on either or both of those profiles and share the sources you've got to support your view of the facts. Wikitree is a user-contributed site and its users vary widely in terms of their research experience; very few are professional genealogists. I also encourage you to adopt a collaborative approach to addressing what you see as disputed information. We encourage people to focus on sources; if you have stronger sources than those provided on the above profiles, please share them. Thanks.

Thanks for volunteering, Max. You are now a confirmed member of WikiTree!

Have fun and ask for help if you need it. Most WikiTree members are eager to offer guidance to a fellow genealogist.

If you need additional help, our Mentors Project is a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to assist you with WikiTree-specific problems.

P.S. Here's my favorite WikiTree page about formatting sources.

Welcome to Wikitree Todd!

The initial email from us has helpful links that get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site you’ve ever used.

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, you’ll have an opportunity to Volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests.

  • Once you choose to Volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you’ll be on your way!

Welcome to the Family, we’re really glad you’re here.
