Sarah Delano Hubbard was born in 1822, the daughter of Jennison J. and Eliza (Fitch) Hubbard. Jennison was born in Charlestown, New Hampshire, and Eliza was born in Nantucket, Massachusetts. Sarah was named for Eliza’s mother, Sarah (Delano) Fitch. Sarah D. Hubbard married Amasa Rice born in Pittsfield, MA). They were married when she died of paralysis on 12 April 1895 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She was 72 years, 6 months, and 28 days of age when she passed away. [1]
In 1850, Amasa and Sarah lived in Pittsfield, Berkshire, Massachusetts. The household included Amasa Rice, 40, a farmer with $4000 in real estate; his wife Sarah, 27; and their son Robert, 3 months of age. Also living with them were Samuel D. Rice, 21, a farmer; and Jane Turner, 12 (who was not in school. Presumably a servant). All members of the household were born in Massachusetts, except for Sarah, who was born in New Hampshire. [2]

The household included Amasa, 54 (error; he was about 46); Sarah, 32; and their two sons: Robert A., 5; and Charles H., 2, both born in Massachusetts. Also living with them were Joseph Cooly, 15 b. in NY; Prudence Manly, 30, b. in NH; and Theobold Bellshusa, 19, a farmer, b. in Canada. Note: Charles H. Rice does not appear on the next (1860), or any subsequent Census. He presumably passed away sometime before 1860. [3]

In 1865, they lived in Pittsfield, Berkshire, Massachusetts. The household included Amasa, 56, a farmer, and legal voter; his wife Sarah, 44; and their three children: Robert A., 15; Martha E., 4; and Mary, 2. [5]

The household included Amasa, 61, a farmer, with $15,000 in real estate and $5155 in personal assets; his wife, Sarah D., 48; and their two daughters: Martha, 9; and Mary, 7, both in school and both born in Massachusetts. Also living with the family were two female domestic servants: Augusta Destrofth, 22, who could not read or write, and who was born in Poland; Mary A. Faley, 13, b. in NY; and a farm hand, Arthur Harrison, 19, b. in Rhode Island. [6]

The household included Amasa Rice, 71, a farmer, born in MA, as were his parents; his wife Sarah, 57, born in NH, as was her father, and her mother was b. in MA; their daughter Mary E., 17, b. MA, in school; and two “mulatto servants,” Frank Stewart, 13, and Bessie Stewart, 11. Neither were in school. Their father was b. in Cal, and their mother was b. in MA (presumably they were siblings, and another sibling was a servant on a neighboring farm). Amasa and Sarah’s son, Robert A Rice lived on a neighboring farm. The household included Robert, 30, a farmer, b. in MA; his wife Corinthia, 40, b. in MA, as were her parents; their three children, all born in MA: Grace, 5, at school; Henry, 3; and Charles, 1. Also living with them was Mary Stewart, 12, a “mulatto servant,” b. in MA, whose father was b. in Cal, and whose mother was b. in MA. [7]
