The unsourced Compendium of American Genealogy records that the father of Andreas Huber (1723-1794) was (Gregor) Jonas Huber, son of Johannes Heinrich Huber of Bern, Switzerland, and that Jonas left Switzerland for the German Palatinate.[1][2]
Birth : Gregor Jonas Huber is variously reported to have been born :
on 6 Aug 1668 in Oberkulm, Aargau in the Old Swiss Confederacy (now Switzerland) to parents Johann Heinrich Huber and Maria Margaretta Hoffman (earlier version of profile, unsourced)
on 6 Jul 1668 in Obkirchen, Sankt Johann im Pongau Bezirk, Salzburg, Austria [3]
Immigration / Emigration : He immigrated to the German Palatinate [1][2] in 1698 "due to Swiss Pietist persecution". An often-quoted but unsourced text appears to record his arrival in Switzerland rather than in the German Palatinate :
When a youth, with his father, uncle and brothers, Gregor came to Switzerland in a boat, or on a raft, down the rivers Wynen, Aare and Rhile.
Marriage and children : He is reported to have married either Anna Maria Hartman or Anna Maria Kreutzer c.1698 in either the German Palatinate or Pennsylvania.[1][4] Further evidence is needed to clarify. They are reported to have been the parents of 11 children :
Death : Gregor Jonas died on 13 Apr 1741 in Ellerstadt.[1][3] His presumed death and burial record in Ellerstadt reads as follows: den 13t April ist Jonas Huber gestorben und den 15. begraben. Seines Alters 73 Jahr weniger 4 Monat (the 13th of April passed away Jonas Huber, he was buried on the 15th. He was aged 73 years minus 4 months [this would give a calculated birth date of about August 1668]) [7]
Research Notes
There is no marriage record for a Gregor Jonas Huber or similar in the 1690s/1700s in Ellerstadt, the 1698 record is for a Johann Kilian Hübner. [8]
Gregor's profile is effectively unsourced, since no primary evidence is provided. If the details can be assumed to be correct, then he was the fourth great-grandfather of Herbert Clark Hoover, the 31st President of the United States[9] and the paternal sixth great-grandfather of Michael Richard Pence, the 48th Vice President of the United States.[10] (This text should be removed if the details are demonstrated to be incorrect.)
Lancaster Mennonite Vital Records record that Johannes Huber, son of Gregor Jonas and Anna Marie Huber was born in Ellerstadt, and died in Frederick County (presumably MD) in 1799. [11] This conflicts with the list currently (Mar 2023) provided of Gregor's children.

Huber Hof : the so-called Huber-Hof property still exists in Ellerstadt at Ludwigstrasse 20. A former farm where the ancestors of the American President Herbert Clark Hoover (1874 to 1964), 31st President of the United States from 1928 to 1932, came from. At the Huber-Hof, on the front side of the residential building facing Ludwigstrasse, a relief inscription commemorates the famous descendants of the Huber family.

Even though I added under the subheading "Note" that the first link doesn't work, I see none of them work. I believe it would appropriate to remove them since they are not available and are just taking up space in the Biography. Thanks.
