John Evangelist Huber was born at 5:00 p.m. at #1 Gschend, Bavaria, Germany on 5 July 1857. He was baptized at St Martin's church, Geroldshausen, Bavaria, Germany. Erasmus Waldinger, a wood worker from Larsbach, was his godfather.
John received first communion 22 May 1873 at St Mary's church in Ste. Marie, Illinois and he was confirmed 16 Oct 1873.
John E. Huber and Phoebe Ellen Wisemore were married 4 July 1882 at Newton, Illinois in Jasper County.
They were married by James W. Gibson, County Judge. Witnesses to the marriage were John B. Morris and Geo. W. Wisemore.
Phoebe was born in 1858. Phoebe Wisemore ... She passed away in 1932.
John and Phoebe lived on a farm 2 112 miles northeast of Ste. Marie in Ste. Marie township. The neighborhood was known as the Ridge or Cracker Ridge. The area was formed by on oxbow of the Embarras River.
John became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America on 5 Nov 1894. He gave up allegiance to William Emperor of Germany.
The 1900 Federal Census of Jasper County show that neighbors of John and Phoebe were Sherman and Josephine Enlow (children, Ira, Sylvia and Louisa), John and Elizabeth Schuch (children George and John Schackruann), Peter and Theresa Hoecherl (children Paul and George), Eliza Sheddlebower{children Frank, Mary, Martin, William and George).
John Huber, died at the family home northeast of here Friday morning at 11 o'clock, after a lingering illness with cancer of the liver.
Mr. Huber has been confined to him room or bed more or less of the time for a period of nine months death coming as a relief to his sufferings.
Deceased was born in Bavaria Germany July 4, 1857, and came to this country around the year '76 with his father and brother, Thomas, the rest of the family remaining in the east until later. He was married to Miss Phoebe Wisemore a few years later. Their union was blessed with five children, three of whom with their mother survive, namely: Mrs. Ambrose (Minnie) Spitzer, and Miss Nora and Louis. There also survive one brother, Thomas, and four sisters, Mrs Wolfgang Bergbower of St. Peter and the others living in the east.
Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church, Sunday, after High Mass by Rev. P.I Virnich after which the remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery."
