Biography

Born 1800[1]

Joseph was born about 1800 in Smith County, TN

He married Annie Wright, June 17, 1819 in Pope Co, IL, where his whole family had migrated from TN about 1818/19.

Joseph & Annie had two sons (John?-1821 & ?) before she died (sometime before 1837).
[There were 2 men who could have been this first son of Joseph Huddleston:
John Huddleston Jr, b abt 1821, m Delitha Huddleston (2nd cousin)
William Huddleston, m 1846 to Martha A. Howell.
Neither of these 2 have been placed with certainty in the Missouri Huddleston family and either would be able to be Joseph’s first son.]

Joseph was not in the 1820 Illinois census, so maybe he went ahead of his father's family to Oregon Co, Mo. (Or maybe he and his new wife got missed, or were living with her family, Joseph Wright.)

His father and whole family moved to the area in southern Missouri now in Oregon County in 1821. Joseph spent the rest of his life around Thomasville, Mo (though the county names changed over the years from Wayne to Ripley to Oregon Co in 1845).

In 1830 they were on the Wayne Co, Mo. census with a son age 5-10. Not completely sure, but this was probably John Huddleston, Jr. He could have gone to live with one set of grandparents after his mother died.
1830 Wayne Co, Mo census, p. 46:
Huddleston, Joseph 30-40 1790-1800
. . . . . 1 female 30-40 (b1790-1800 (Annie Wright-28, abt 1802)
. . . . . 1 male 5-10 (b1820-1825) (?John Jr-9, b 1821)

This 1st son would have been about 16 years old, and their 2nd son was 2-7 when his father married for the second time in 1837[2] to Elizabeth Perkins. Perhaps Annie lost a couple of children between her two boys.

In 1840 Joseph was in Ripley Co, Mo (same location) - p 347:
Huddleston, Joseph 40-50 1790-1800
. . . . . 1 female 20-30 1810-1820 (Elizabeth Perkins, 1813)
. . . . . 1 male 15-20 1820-1825 (John Jr, 1821)
. . . . . 1 male 5-10 1830-1835 (son of Annie)
. . . . . 1 female under 5 1835-1840 (Sarah, 1839)
This census shows another boy who would have been born during his first marriage.]

Joseph and Elizabeth had 5 children: Sarah L, boy, Jasper, Joseph, George Marion.

In 1850 he was in Oregon Co, Mo (same location). p400a, HH#72

. . . . . Sarah L. - 12, b Mo
. . . . . Jasper - 7, b Mo
. . . . . Joseph - 4, b Mo

Elizabeth died before Mar 1852 when Joseph married a 3rd time to Catherine Mahan (Mar 28, 1852, Oregon Co, Mo).

He and Catherine had 2 children: Jacob A. and Charles Chester.

Joseph died in 1857.

1860 Oregon Co., MO census, 9 Jul 1860, Woodside Twp., #287

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:
