Ella Ruth Hudgins was born in 1933 to Joseph G. Hudgins and Minnie Fritsch. She was the youngest of their four children. Ella was married at least five times, all them occurring in Texas. She first married John Hal Adams on 22 Aug 1952 in Coady, Harris County, TX. She then married Jimmie Dale Grubaugh on 12 Aug 1968 in Harris County. She divorced Jimmie Dale on 4 Aug 1969. Ella married Francis Ralph Whatley on 9 Jul 1971 in Freestone County. He died two years later and she married his brother, Lee Roy Whatley on 10 Sep 1975 in Freestone County. They divorced on 7 Aug 1977 in Freestone County, and she finally married James L. Phillips on 26 Nov 1981 in Montgomery County. That marriage last only 6 months and they divorced on 12 Apr 1982 in Harris County. Ella didn't remarry after that and reverted to the Whatley surname. Ella died in Dallas, TX in 2009.

I haven't yet discovered the disposition of Ella's remains (cremains). I have not found an obituary and the cemetery where her two Whatley husbands are buried says that she is not there. I have placed her in the same cemetery as her parents, but this placement needs to be confirmed. The Dallas newspaper did not carry her obituary. I'll update her disposition when additional information becomes available.^[1]
