Resident of Doniphan County, Kansas, USA 26 years = 1873 - 1899, And A First Cousin To General Grant. He served in the Mexican war. Went To California in search for Gold.

The Oskaloosa (Kansas) Independent, Friday 29 December 1899 GRANT'S COUSIN DIED A PAUPER. John V. Hudson, a well known farmer, died in Atchison county recently. Mr. Hudson was first cousin to Gen. U. S. grant and served with him during the Mexican war. They were fast friends for a time, but many years ago they had a quarrel and for 20 years Hudson never spoke Grant's name. In his old age Hudson became very poor and he was buried by the county. [1]
