• Name

The nickname"engineer" is my own, simply to distinguish him from other James Hudson's in the family. (David Wilson)

Father's death cert states his son's name as James C Hudson. James' death cert (10 Dec 1941) states his father to be James Cotterell Hudson, but no entry is made for his mother. Wedding cert. to Muriel Amourous states name as James Cottrell Hudson and age as 54 in 1922. James Cottral Hudson (Vol II 'History of Bourke' p.64) which along with children James, Arthur, Clarrie and Roy also lists Noel Francis Hudson m M H Lamb 27 Dec 1956 - with issue Chris b.11/9/57, David and Naomi (unsourced notes).

Questionable Qld census entries keep listing him as Engineer – Caiwarra - Eulo, Qld 1930, 1936, 1937 and 1943 ... but he died in 1941 of exhaustion and carcinoma ventriculi aged 77.

He left South Australia after receiving his Third Class Engineer's certificate from the Marine Board of SA. This Certificate found him duly qualified to 'fulfil the duties of a Third Class Engineer of an intercoastal Steamship trading by river, or of a Steamship plying within the limits of any Port in the State of South Australia' - (The Marine Board and Navigation Act, 1881) - certificate dated 19 April 1893
