Biography

The Hudsons owned a small farm in Harperville, MS. They primarily raised cotton, cattle, and produce for their own use. The head, Wm. Oscar, died at 51, and left his widow and five children, two sons and three daughters, almost destitute. His widow, Emmett, believed that girls in the 1920's should have a profession, so she sent her three daughters to nursing school. The youngest daughter served in the WAC in WWll, where she met her husband. My father, Billy, the youngest, lost his hearing and right leg in his mid-teens, and became a Linotype Operator at Newspapers.

As a child I was told we might be related to the Explorer, Henry Hudson, and now I find that is true, thanks to wikitree.

Congratulations!

This week we have your last stop on the guided tour. Hopefully, you're feeling like a WikiTree pro! If not, you can always revisit the tour stops via the comment boxes on the right side of your profile.

You've covered a lot of ground the past few weeks. Today, we want to give you just a few more tools that can take you even deeper into the WikiTree forest without getting lost: How to Dig a Little Deeper.

Please do not hesitate to ask questions! Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Thanks, WikiMesssenger Cindy

Hello

You may have been hard at work getting connected to family members who are already here and adding those who were missing. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now.

There's a fast and easy way to access those profiles using the Watchlist. So, this week we're going to look at How to Manage Your Watchlist.

Please ask if you have questions! Just ask in the comment section of my page. We want to help!

Hi Dorothy,

You have been a WikiTreer for several weeks now!

You are probably getting a feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree. Since collaboration isn't always easy, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

By the way, if you haven't signed the Honor Code yet, please stop by to check it out. It's the core of how WikiTree works, and members have more editing privileges after signing it.

I'm always happy to answer questions!

Hi Dorothy --

It's time for your next stop on the guided tour!

This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.

Be sure to check out the One Name Studies Project to see if anyone has started a project for one of the surnames in your family. Don't see one? Follow the instructions for starting your own!

Please let me know if you have questions. :-)

Shirley, WikiMessenger

Our next stop will give you some pointers on how to make your profiles stand out: How to Edit a Profile.

As always, your questions are welcome!

Hi Dorothy,

Thanks for joining us! I’m David, a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site.

Did you have fun learning your way around WikiTree yesterday?

I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Do you have any questions I can answer?

Hi Dorothy,

Thanks for completing the tags indicating you wish to research/document your family history. You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members.

As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum: Have you found any ancestors who participated in the American Revolution?

Great to have you on board and good luck growing your branches.

Hi Dorothy,

A warm welcome to the WikiTree family! The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site you’ve ever used and it is FREE. WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, you’ll have an opportunity to volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests.

Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you’ll be on your way!

We’re really glad you’re here. More importantly, have fun growing your family tree and connecting to persons with the same interest.

Ludwig :)
