Joseph Lyman Huey, the son of Simon Huey and Ann Hughes, was born 24 August 1842 in Adams County, Ohio. He was known as Lyman Huey. His mother died in 1844, prior to the family's move to Brown County. Lyman's older brother, George R. Huey, was born 2 April 1841 in Fairview, Adams County and died 2 October 1917 near Georgetown, Ohio. On 28 June 1864, Joseph Lyman Huey was wed to Catherine Shafer in Brown County. Their known children were Fanny Elizabeth Huey, born 27 September 1865, and Ida Belle Huey, born 16 June 1869. Joseph Lyman Huey died 4 October 1880 at the age of 38 and was buried at Brown's Chapel Cemetery in Pike Township, Brown County. It is not known just when or where his wife Catherine died, but she is presumed dead before 1900.
