Sterling Beauregard Huff was born 12 October 1861 in Missouri, USA. He is the son of son of Anthony Christian Huff and Sarah Frances Goodman.
The 1870 United States Census, enumerated 07 June 1880, records eight year old Sterling as Sterling P. Huff residing in the residence of his parents, A.C. and Sarah Huff, at Jefferson Township, Saline County, Missouri. His father is 43 years old, born in Missouri, a farmer and owns real estate valued at $3000 and a personal estate valued at $1100. His mother is 38 years old, born in Virginia and keeping house. Also residing in the household is his 15-year-old sister Sarah E. Huff and his brothers 10 years old Lindsey Huff, seven year old Robert E. L. Huff, Five year old Anthony Huff, three year old Lancy Huff and an unnamed male infant.
The 1880 United States Federal Census, Enumerated 22 June 1880, records Sterling as S.B. Huff residing in the residence of his parents, A.C. and S. F. Huff, at Clay Township, Saline County, Missouri. He is 18 years old, single and a Farm Laborer. Also residing in the household is his 12-year-old sister Cena Huff and his brothers 10 years old Lindsey Huff, 17 year old R.E. [Robert E. L.] Huff, 14 year old Anthony Huff, 10 year old Boliver Huff and seven year old Lee Huff. Thomas West, a 19 year old farm laborer. is also residing in the household.
He married Marion Jeanette Holder 01 May 1895 at Saline County, Missouri. is Marion is the daughter of Alexander Washington Holder and Sabra Elizabeth “Sabie”Ellis, she was born 26 January 1877 at Saline County, Missouri. They had seven children.
The 1900 United States Census, enumerated 15 June 1900, records Sterling as Sterling B. Huff, residing in the home he owns with a mortgage on a farm in Salt Fork Township, Saline County, Missouri. Sterling is 37 years old and a farmer. Also residing in the household is his wife Marion J. Huff, they have been married five years. She is 23 years old, is the mother of three children, three of whom are living. Also residing in the household are their three sons: four year old Emmet (Emmett Sterling Huff), two year old Alexander (Alexander Anthony Huff) and one year old Verner (Verner Edwin Huff).
The 1910 United States Federal Census records Sterling as Sterling Huff residing in a house he is renting on a farm in Salt Fork Township, Saline County, Missouri. Sterling is 48 years old farming. Also residing in the household is his wife Marion Huff, they have been married 15 years. She is 32 years old and is the mother of six children, six of whom are living. Also residing in the household are their six sons: 14 year old Emmet, 13o year old Alex, 11 year old Verner, nine year old Carl (James Karl Huff), sox year old Lawrence (Lawrence E. "Paulky" Huff) and four year old Burl (Beryl Marshall Huff).
Sterling filed a divorce petition with the Miller County, Arkansas Chancery Court 12 November 1927. The alleged cause for the petition was cruelty. He was awarded and absolute divorce 03 December 1927. The case was not contested, property rights were not affected and no children were affected.
Sterling and Marion emarried 01 May 1930 Miller County, Arkansas, Emmett Roberts officiated. Sterling was 68-years-old and Marion was 50-years-old as recorded on their marriage affidavit. Both Sterling and Marion were residents Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas.
By 1935 Sterling and Marion were living on their farm in Garland Township, Miller County, Arkansas and continued to live there through the 1940 census. They own their home valued at 4000. Sterling has a seventh-grade education and Marion has an eighth-grade education. Sterling worked for 25 weeks showing no income and Marion, a public school teacher worked for 36 weeks showing she earned $580, in 1939.
Sterling was 89 years of age when he died 23 December 1950 in the Silverine Community of Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas, of Bronchial Pneumonia. He had fallen over a chair at night resulting in a fracture of his left hip. He was buried 24 December 1950 at Silverino Cemetery, Miller County, Arkansas. He was a retired farmer at the time of his death.
